Watercolor Wash with a Ziploc Bag!

Hello Stampers! Thanks for dropping by! I hope you all survived Valentine's Day yesterday. My husband and I celebrated over a couple large steaks at our favorite supper club last night - yum!

Today I've got an incredibly simple, beautiful card for you using a watercolor wash background that you create with a Ziploc bag!

You can see just how easy this technique is in my video tutorial below.

Who would've thought such a simple technique could be so beautiful! This is a great card for making multiples and not getting bored. You can experiment with lots of different color combinations and easily make a stack of those cards you always need to have on hand - think Thank You's, Get Well, Sympathy, Christmas, Birthday...

For those of you who like to follow along a step-by-step tutorial, I've got that for you too!

Gather your supplies:

  • STAMPS – Petal Palette (145788 clear, 145785 wood)
  • PAPER – Whisper White Thick (140272), Watercolor Paper (122959)
  • INK – Tuxedo Black Memento (132708)
  • OTHER – Stampin’ Write Markers (131264 – Many Marvelous Markers – colors used in this card are Rose Red, Pacific Point, So Saffron, Pear Pizazz), Aqua Painters (103954), Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755) Plastic Sandwich Bag (like Ziploc)
Cutting & Scoring:
  • Whisper White Thick 11” x 4-1/4”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Watercolor 4” x 5-1/4"
Instructions:
  • Lay your plastic sandwich bag over the top of your watercolor paper. This will give you a guideline for your marker coloring.
  • Using Stampin’ Write markers, scribble colors of your choice on the baggie in vertical scribbles across the card. Set aside – scribbled side up.
  • Use aqua painter to wet the watercolor layer generously where you want your color placed. Do not wet the entire layer – just the area you want the watercolor wash.
  • Flip inked/scribbled plastic sandwich baggie over to set on top of the watercolor layer (inked side will now be facing down, touching watercolor wash so ink can spread). Smoosh the baggie around with your fingers to gently spread ink. Let dry thoroughly.
  • Using Memento, stamp greeting and flowers as shown above.
  • Adhere watercolor card front to card base.
  • Send to someone special!

Have you ever heard of a Shoebox Swap?

Hi stampers! Thanks for stopping by my blog - I love vistors :).

Those of you that follow my Facebook page already know that the dust is settling on some super hectic (and crazy stressful) "stuff" I've had going on. I finally got into my stamp room this weekend for the first time in a couple months. I cleaned, I organized, I cleaned some more, I rearranged, I purged some more, and then I organized. Haha - doesn't it sometimes feel like the clean angel on our shoulder will never catch up to the messy crafter on the other shoulder!

Last night, I got together with 3 stamping friends. Stamping in a group is so much fun - I love sharing the company of other stampers who "get" the need for stamping stress relief! We did a Shoebox Swap together! Ever heard of it??? Read on!

A Shoebox Swap is like swapping cards - only you get to make the different projects yourself! Easy!As preparation for our get-together, I designed 2 cards. I cut, scored, and gathered enough materials for my friends to each one of each of my cards. My stamping friends did the same. We all sat around my friend's stamping table, and we stamped our cards together! At the end of the night, I came home with 8 cards --- the 2 I made and 6 other designs!

Here's a few of the cards we made last night:

So why a Shoebox Swap? Let me tell you...
  • It's a great way to use build a unique stash of cards. Sometimes I get in rut with my same designs - but last night, I walked away with 8 different cards!
  • You're using your stamping supplies! Ummmm, yeah - how many of us have stamp supplies sitting on our shelves that we haven't even touched? Finally, we can use all the fun goodies we have purchased!
  • You're getting ideas for your supplies and for card layouts! You're expanding your creativity by using your friends' ideas as you begin your next stamping session at home.
  • You're having fun and you're letting stress melt away. Take your time, savor the moment you are sharing with your friends. What could be better?
Think about organizing a shoebox swap with a couple fellow stampers - I promise you won't regret it!

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to stop by and see what I created! I hope I've inspired you today!

Petal Palette Simple White on White Card

Welcome to my blog today! I'm so happy that you stopped by! Today I've got a simple and stinkin' adorable (!!!) card for you that gives you ANOTHER sneak peek at new product from the Occasions Catalog.

Now how cute is that?!? I went really simple here both with my design and my color palette. As soon as I saw that little bird in the Petal Palette stamp set I knew I wanted to create a minimalist card with just a tiny pop of color, and that's exactly what I did!

To stamp my bird, I dug out my Many Marvelous Markers and colored right on my stamp. Did you know you can do that to make a multi-colored stamp? This technique works so well with the red rubber clear mount stamps. I used Pacific Point for the bird, Chocolate Chip for the branch, and Old Olive for the leaves. I just love how that little bird pops against the crisp white! I zigzagged some Stitched Edge ribbon behind the popped up square for another pop of color.

With a white on white palette, sometimes you need to add a little texture. I did that with the Polka Dot Basics Embossing Folder. I also added another little splash of color by doing some marker flicking with my Pacific Point Marker diagonally across the upper left corner of the card. Those little extras always add the perfect finishing touch to a card, don't you think?

Now once the Occasions Catalog goes live (January 2nd), you'll be able to save 10% by getting the Petal Palette Bundle. I love that Stampin' Up! bundles their products so we can save money! In the meantime, you can purchase any of the other products I used to create this card by clicking the items below.  Make sure to use my host code:

Global Design Project 118 | Sketch Challenge

Welcome Stampers! I'm so happy you're visiting my blog! I've got some inspiration for you today with my entry to this week's Global Design Project challenge, and it's also a SNEAK PEEK of some super cool products from the new Occasions Catalog that goes live January 2.

This week's Global Design Project theme is a sketch challenge. The sketch below is the inspiration for my card.

I just love playing along with these challenges! They help get my creativity flowing - especially when I am using new product. For my card, I decided to play around with my NEW Petal Palette Bundle from the 2018 Occasions Catalog. If you have your Occasions catalog handy, you can check it out on page 23.

This card was a lot of fun to create. I got to do some coloring with my Stampin' Blends markers, which I swear makes me look like a professional - don't you think? It is so incredibly easy to get your shading just perfect with these markers. They are alcohol based, so blending is a cinch! I can't get enough of them!

Do you notice the transitional colors in the background? I used my new Brusho Crystal Color powder to get this effect. If you want to see how I did it, check out my video below:

I used Vellum as the vertical layer and wrapped some white bakers twine around twice then tied in a bow to add just the perfect touch.

So how do you like that transitional background and the new products? I'd love for you to leave me a comment and tell me what you think! You would really make my day!

Hey - if you need to stock up on any of the products I used to make this card, I would be so thrilled if you purchased them from my online store. Your support means so much to me. Make sure to use my host code:
